At VCC & Associates, we offer a variety of assessments and training programmes for fostering, adoption, parenting assessments, special guardian reports, initial visits, foster carer reviews, overseas assessments and  much more.

The assessment process includes:

It takes anyone 3 to 9 months to become a foster parent depending on the time taken for assessment. The first step starts with completing the enquiry with which you will receive various information packs that are required to be read. Step two is the home visit by the agency to start your assessment, checks and training which need to be cleared before you can foster a child. At the end of the assessment, you will be invited to appear before a fostering panel where your approval will be discussed and a decision made. A recommendation will be made after the session completes if you are found eligible.

Skills required to foster a child

  • The ability to communicate with children, their families and professionals
  • An awareness of child development and the particular needs of foster children
  • A willingness to work with the care plan for the child including working with their families
  • Flexibility
  • The ability to keep accurate records
  • A willingness to attend meetings, support groups and training courses
